CANCELLED - 9th Annual "Wally" Seaver High School Invitational

We here at the Hoop Crew first want to thank all of the coaches who signed up and registered their teams for our event this summer. They have helped make this year's "would-have-been" tournament field the LARGEST high school event that we have had in its 9 years history and without those coaches, players, parents, fans, volunteers and everyone else involved -- this event would not be what it is today.

Despite being unable to host our tournament this year, we strongly encourage all those teams that would have been a part of this year's event to consider re-joining us next summer when we announce and eventually host the 10th Annual "Wally' Seaver High School Invitational in 2021 -- which we hope will break even this year's "would-have-been" record mark for high schools and states that were represented.

We are not only disappointed in having to make this decision today, but I am essentially heartbroken in not only the fact that we cannot play hoops, but also that we missed a really good opportunity to raise funds and awareness for a good cause and given the participation and numbers that we were expecting to have this year -- this could've been one of our most successful summers in terms of ALS fundraising.

However, it is clear that we are fighting a bigger battle and the health, safety and well-being of our student athletes, coaches, fans, volunteers and everyone else involved should remain the top priority -- especially in the hopes and efforts of getting back to school this fall and the impending 2020-21 athletic calendar. Of course we will learn more details in that regard over time, but we would like to wish all of the student-athletes, coaches and teams the best of luck this school year and winter season.

As many of you know, Massachusetts did enter Phase 3, Step 1 yesterday, but with that came the specific guidelines for the return of youth sports and basketball was labeled as a "high risk" level sport that can only engage in "Level 1" activities, which was labeled as non-contact, conditioning skills and drills. Game play was listed within "Level 3" and tournaments were listed as part of "Level 4" and they only were only for sports that are outdoors, according to our understanding of the release.

Therefore, given the current timeline, it became clear that it was in our best interest to call off the dogs and cancel this summer's 9th Annual "Wally" Seaver High School Invitational. Once again, we cannot thank you all enough for your interest, communication and most importantly, PATIENCE in this matter. It truly is greatly appreciated.

We here at the Hoop Crew would like to wish you all the best of luck moving forward and hope to see you next summer!
